New strategy launched to stamp out hate crime and build safer communities |
Today, Cleveland Police and Crime Commissioner Matt Storey launched the new Hate Crime Strategy, bringing together partners and organisations from across Cleveland who are working to tackle hate crime and support victims. Developed by the Cleveland Strategic Hate Crime Partnership, the 10-year strategy aims to ensure “all adults and children in Cleveland can live free from hatred and hostility motivated by prejudice.”
The strategy focuses on: ➡️Helping people understand what hate crime is and how to report it ➡️Challenging hateful attitudes and behaviours ➡️Ensuring victims can access the right support ➡️Robustly investigating reports of hate crime ➡️Making sure perpetrators face appropriate sanctions
Success will be measured through increased reporting, fewer repeat victims and perpetrators, improved criminal justice outcomes, and higher victim satisfaction. By working together and supporting victims, we can take a stronger stand against hate crime and help build safe, strong and confident communities across Cleveland. Anyone experiencing hate crime can access support through Safer Communities on 0303 040 1099.
