Friday 6th March Sussex Alerts - Rother Police Dear Residents, Please find below the latest Sussex Alerts from Rother Police. Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road collision on the on the Harley Shute Road, St Leonards, on Tuesday, March 3.
Emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving two motorbikes at around 3.50pm.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the rider of one of the motorbikes, a 50-year-old man from Battle, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
A 49-year-old man from St Leonards was on arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released, and no further action will be taken against him.
Enquiries are underway to establish the circumstances of the collision. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has relevant dash cam footage, to come forward.

Increased Police patrols in Rye following community concerns
We’ve listened to concerns from residents about safety in Rye, particularly around dangerous, inconsiderate and illegal parking along the A259 between the Kettle O’ Fish roundabout and Fishmarket Road. In response, officers are carrying out targeted patrols and enforcement in the area.
Illegal and unsafe parking doesn’t just obstruct traffic it creates real dangers for pedestrians, including those using pushchairs and wheelchairs, especially in busy or narrow locations. Vehicles parked on zig‑zag lines, parked dangerously, or positioned in a way that prevents emergency vehicles from getting through may also be committing an offence.
Police in Rye are encouraging residents to report parking issues at the time to Operation Crackdown online here.
