"Look Up, Look Out": Stay aware of your surroundings, especially for criminals on bikes, e-scooters, or mopeds who may attempt a "snatch theft" while you are distracted.

Keep it Hidden: Avoid leaving your phone on tables in cafes or restaurants, as thieves can grab them in seconds or use distractions to take them.

Plan Your Use: If you must use your phone in public, stand away from the roadside and close to a wall so no one can approach you from behind.

Stay Alert: Don't let headphones block out the sound of traffic or approaching strangers, and avoid texting while walking. 

Know Your IMEI: Dial *#06# to find your phone's unique 15-digit identity number and keep it recorded somewhere other than your phone. This is vital for police reports and insurance.

Enable Built-in Protection:

• iPhone: Activate "Stolen Device Protection" to prevent thieves from changing key security settings.

• Android: Use "Theft Detection Lock", which uses motion sensors to automatically lock the device if it’s snatched from your hand.

Register Your Property: Register your phone’s details for free on Immobilise, a national property database that helps police return recovered items to their owners.

Use Biometrics: Prioritise Face ID or fingerprints over passcodes, which can be "shoulder-surfed" by thieves watching you enter them. 

Act Fast: Immediately use another device to remotely lock or wipe your handset using Find My iPhone or Google's Find My Device.

Report It: Contact your network provider to block the SIM and report the theft to West Midlands Police online or via 101.
