Winter of Action sees over 800 arrests and reduction in crimes across the board for local communities |

This winter has seen an uplift of neighbourhood policing activity in our communities to ensure they feel safe, as part of the Winter of Action. As a result of efforts across the force, data* shows a 50% reduction in bicycle theft and a 48% decrease in commercial burglary in comparison to last year. Much like the summer uplift, the Winter of Action saw key areas identified across the force, these were: Barry Llanrumney Roath Canton Cardiff City Centre Aberdare Bridgend Merthyr Pontypridd Swansea City Centre Neath The Winter of Action also saw a 38% reduction in burglaries in homes, 600 hours provided by the Special Constabulary, and a 14% reduction in anti-social behaviour. Four Criminal Behaviour Orders were also secured to prevent people from having the opportunity to reoffend, such as enter certain areas, with consequences if they do. Chief Inspector Tony Williams said: “This boost of activity saw us focusing on key issues that impacted communities and the businesses within them during the winter period. The efforts of those involved saw many thieves and burglars held to account and spending their Christmas behind bars. “I really encourage residents and businesses owners to engage with their local teams, find their named local officer who they can contact with any concerns, and have their say. Just because the ‘Winter of Action’ has come to an end, it does not mean our efforts to keep our communities safe will cease.” *All data is compared to the same period last year (December 1 2024 – January 30 2025).
