Attending Purim at Higham's Park & Chingford Synagogue |

SENT OBO SUPERINTENDENT JACKSON
On 2nd March, I had the pleasure of joining the Higham's Park & Chingford Synagogue for their Purim celebrations. Purim is a joyful and meaningful festival in the Jewish calendar, marking the story of resilience and courage found in the Book of Esther. It’s a time when communities come together to celebrate triumph over adversity — and, of course, to make plenty of noise during the reading of the Megillah!
The energy in the room tonight was incredible: children and adults blowing whistles, laughing, and fully embracing the spirit of the festival. It was wonderful to see this tradition bring so much joy and connection across generations.
At a time when tensions in the Middle East continue to create worry and anxiety for many here in London, it is more important than ever that we stand alongside our Jewish communities — in Waltham Forest and across the city — offering reassurance, visibility, and support. Ensuring that everyone feels safe and confident to celebrate their faith and culture is at the heart of our neighbourhood policing approach.
Thank you to everyone at the synagogue for the warm welcome and for sharing such a vibrant celebration.
Wishing all who are celebrating a very happy Purim — Chag Purim Sameach!
