I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Residential Burglaries
There were two burglaries and one attempted burglary recently on our ward as follows: -
On Sunday 22nd February at 7.26pm, the victim came home to Hoodcote Gardens to discover that they had been burgled. The suspect(s) had entered the property via a rear conservatory window and it may be that they were disturbed and garden hopped to get away. It doesn’t appear that anything was stolen.
On Sunday 22nd February at 2.09am, suspects garden hopped into the victim’s rear garden and attempted to break into the property by breaking the lock of the rear door, however they were disturbed and escaped back over the garden fences that they came from.
On Monday 23rd February at 1.27am, there was a burglary in Uplands Way, whereby the victim’s vehicle was stolen off the driveway. The suspects were captured on local CCTV to drive slowly up and down the road in a white vehicle (possibly an Audi) and then parked up in Onslow Gardens prior to committing the burglary. Fortunately, the vehicle has been recovered.
If anyone has any information regarding these crimes, please get in touch with us.
Please note that during my door to door enquires, there were a few properties with wheelie bins by the side gate. If it is possibly, it is advised to move them away from the side gate as they can be used by burglars to get over the gate into the rear garden.
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
