Reminder to stay vigilant after reports of rogue traders

We are reminding residents to stay vigilant after reports of rogue traders carrying out roofing and garden work in Chesterfield.

Here are a few simple tips when answering the door to someone you don’t know:

If someone knocks at your front door claiming to be from a company, first check their ID. If you’re not happy, don’t let them in.

Never call the phone number on a salesperson's ID card to check them out. Ask them to wait outside, shut the door and find the company number on the internet. If they’re genuine, they’ll understand.

Be wary of high-pressure selling techniques. Don’t let them hurry you into a decision, even if there is a discount. The discount might be too high in price in the first place.

Before signing anything, talk to someone you trust – for example a family member, a friend or carer.

Trust your instincts, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Remember it’s your doorstep and your decision. If you feel pressured, ask the person to leave. It’s OK to say no.
