Coordinated crackdown to tackle burglary across Surrey |
||
|
Burglary is more than a loss of property; it’s an intrusion that can leave a lasting impact on victims and the whole community. That is why teams across Surrey Police have recently carried out coordinated proactive activity to target offenders and prevent further crime. Local Safer Neighbourhood officers, proactive teams and specialist resources worked together across the county, combining visible patrols with intelligence-led enforcement. Officers delivered 68 community engagement events, speaking directly with residents and business owners to provide reassurance and practical crime prevention advice. Alongside this engagement work, targeted operations focused on known hotspot areas and key routes used by offenders travelling across force borders. Working with colleagues from Sussex Police and the Metropolitan Police Service, officers recovered vehicles stolen in burglaries and identified vehicles linked to criminal activity. Proactive patrols by Safer Neighbourhood Team officers in Ewell resulted in the arrest of four suspects for possession with intent to supply offences following concerns around recent burglary activity. In Ashford and Sunbury, focused patrols in areas affected by burglaries specifically targeting family gold have contributed to a significant reduction in reported offences. In addition, our Proactive Investigation Team arrested two men in East Surrey on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary between November 2025 and February 2026 across Surrey, Sussex and Kent. The arrests form part of ongoing work to target those believed to be operating across force borders. During one week of targeted activity, officers made more than 24 arrests for offences relating to burglary, theft, drugs, weapons and organised crime group activity, and carried out over 100 proactive interventions designed to disrupt criminal activity and prevent further crime. Detective Chief Inspector Josephine Horner, Crime for East Surrey, said: Officers will continue to carry out targeted patrols, proactive operations and community engagement across Surrey as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our communities safe. Members of the public are encouraged to report suspicious activity via our online portal or by calling 101. In an emergency always call 999.
