Reassurance following Manchester Central Mosque incident 24/02/2026

We know the events surrounding the arrest of a man following an incident at Manchester Central Mosque incident last night will understandably cause some people to feel concerned.   

Our colleagues in Greater Manchester Police continue to make enquiries into the incident, and they have already reported on their own news channels this afternoon that they are exploring every line of enquiry. They have also explained that they are working with detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing North West, and that this incident has not been declared a terrorist incident.  

We understand how regardless, incidents of this nature may make people feel heightened levels of concern.   

We would like to reassure our communities how, throughout the days ahead, we will be increasing our patrols around our mosques as we know that this is a really important time for Muslim communities during Ramadan.
