Operation Pedalfast – update.
I wanted to take the time to update you all about Operation Pedalfast. Highlighting some of work we have done, the positive results we have had and expressing a thank you for the support and reports we have received that have made this operation a success.
Since the inception of Operation Pedalfast, our aim has been clear: to tackle the illegal use of e‑bikes and e‑scooters that pose a danger to our communities. We then set out to educate the users of these vehicles and the wider public about the legality of them with a joint communication campaign with Leicester City Council.
In January 2025 we moved to a seize without warning stance and have now removed 724 non-compliant e-bikes and e-scooters from the City Centre. As the operation has developed, it has become a valuable tool in disrupting a wider range of criminality, including drug, weapon and immigration offences. In that same time frame, we have arrested 52 individuals.
Further Pedalfast operations are planned throughout 2026, with an emphasis on tackling dangerous riding, identifying vulnerable individuals, tackling those who commit drug offences and targeting criminal networks who exploit transport and immigration vulnerabilities.
