More bikes security marked as officers tackle priority |

Another 21 bikes have been security marked by police as we continue to tackle bike theft. Officers from the Welwyn Hatfield West Neighbourhood Policing Team hosted an event outside Asda in Hatfield on Saturday (21 February). PCSOs Casey Phillips and Bill McCaskie, along with Special Sergeant* Steve Aitken, spoke to residents about protecting their bikes from theft and provided free security protection. Bike marking involves applying a unique identifier to the frame. It aims to deter thieves and it increases the chance of police being able to identify and recover the bike if it is stolen. Bike marking is currently a priority for the Welwyn Hatfield West Neighbourhood Policing Team. The issue was chosen as a focus for local policing after consultation with the public. Officers recently security marked 18 bikes at an event at The Galleria. In addition to hosting bike marking, the team has also increased patrols in the area. PCSO Casey Phillips said: “Thank you to everybody who came along to our event. If you weren’t able to make it, we recommend registering your bike online at bikeregister.com. This national database is another great way of giving you some extra resilience against bike thieves.” You can use Herts Connected to let us know what you think we should be prioritising in your area.
