We’ve had reports of vehicle crime in the area, so here are some simple steps you can take to help protect your car and belongings: 🔒 1. Always lock your vehicle
Even if you’re only stepping away for a moment. Thieves look for unlocked cars — especially those with wing mirrors still out. 🪟 2. Close all windows and the sunroof
Leaving gaps makes it easy for thieves to “fish” items out or unlock doors. 🔧 3. Secure your number plates
Use tamper‑resistant screws to prevent stolen plates being used on other vehicles. 🛞 4. Protect your wheels
Fit locking wheel nuts to stop alloy wheels being removed. 📦 5. Secure items stored outside the vehicle
Roof racks, toolboxes and top boxes should be locked — and avoid leaving valuables in them. 📱 6. Take valuables with you or hide them
Phones, bags, loose change, medication and sunglasses attract thieves. Removing them is cheaper than replacing a broken window. 🔌 7. Hide all gadgets — and the clues
Remove sat navs, cables and mounts. Even suction marks on the windscreen can tempt thieves to break in. 🧰 8. Protect tools in vans
Mark tools with your name/company details, store them in a lockable cabinet and consider using security-rated products or cameras. 📄 9. Take your documents with you
Never leave logbooks or insurance documents in the car — they can help thieves sell a stolen vehicle. 🅿️ 10. Pick safer car parks
Use staffed or well‑lit car parks, ideally ones with the Park Mark safer parking award. If you see suspicious activity, please report it to us.
