Dear Residents and Local Businesses, here is your weekly update from your local neighbourhood Policing Team, Stoke and Wyken.
Arrests This week the team have continued their hard work in and around the Stoke and Wyken area conducting high visibility presence in and around our local retail parks to which resulted in arrests of shoplifters trying to take a chance. Following this officers have also conducted Plane clothes in around the retail parks which also resulted in further arrests. Whilst officers were out on patrol they were advised of some suspicious activity. As a result, a large amount of nitrous oxide was seized and suspects taken to custody.
Activity Officers have been actively patrolling ASB hotspots as well as local parks and shops in the Stoke and Wyken area, it's been great to see so many friendly faces don't forget to say hello when you see us around!
We have also conducted meetings with our local community, if this is something you are interested in don't hesitate to get in touch and drop us a message to see what we can arrange!
CCTV By using well-defined boundaries as a basis, CCTV can be a valuable tool. However, it doesn’t prevent a crime from being committed and does have limitations' linked to a smartphone will alert you to someone crossing your boundary. Most importantly, CCTV is no substitute for good quality physical security such as secure doors and windows. Some cameras work by day and by night, and record when they detect movement. Some can be remotely viewed from a smartphone. Position cameras where they are best able to obtain good quality facial images. Could you recognise or identify someone from the footage? There is legislation for home CCTV use, so always seek advice from an accredited installer first to ensure your system complies with the law. Place signage up warning that CCTV is in use. For advice and approved suppliers of CCTV visit the National Security Inspectorate and the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board.
ASB Regarding anti-social behaviour, the survey is still ongoing until the 28th of this month so we will share the QR code for this below again for you to fill out. We take antisocial behaviour seriously and it is at the core of our neighbourhood policing activity. We’ve developed a plan to reduce antisocial behaviour for 2026 onwards, and your views are central to helping this plan continue to grow and work effectively for our local communities. Antisocial behaviour can have a real impact on how safe people feel where they live. By taking part in the survey, you can help identify what matters most in your area and where action should be focused. The survey will be open throughout February, and everyone who lives, works, or spends time in the West Midlands is encouraged to take part. Feedback from the survey will directly inform the approach taken by West Midlands Police and partners to reduce and prevent antisocial behaviour moving forward. To have your say, complete the survey before 28 February 2026 by clicking this link or scanning the QR code below
Nature Watch
Residents in the Clifford Bridge vicinity have reported a significant number of squirrels invading their gardens and consuming bird feed that has been left out.
They suspect this increase may be linked to the recent removal of trees that are being converted into cycle paths.
One resident also mentioned they may have spotted a black squirrel, which was previously seen and documented in 2014 near the Cathedral in Coventry City Centre.
It is believed that black squirrels were first introduced to the United Kingdom after originating in North America, during the Victorian era, the first sighting being around 1912 possibly in the Hertfordshire area
For non-emergency enquiries or to raise community concerns in the Wyken area, residents are encouraged to contact Coventry Police through their usual channels.
