How to Correctly Report Lost Property |
||
|
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) does not issue reference numbers when reporting lost property, but certain losses can be recorded in the following ways:
· Where your item is serial numbered, we recommend that you register and report the loss at immobilise.com. Immobilise allows losers to print a numbered ownership certificate, confirming the details of the loss. · Where the item is a pedal cycle, we recommend that you register and report the item lost at bikeregister.com.
Details of losses reported via these methods are made available to Police forces across the UK via the National Mobile Property Register (NMPR™). This ensures the best chance of being reunited with your property. This information is already available to insurance companies and service providers using the NMPR™ ‘Patriot’ system, which makes any further loss report unnecessary.
The lack of reference number will not invalidate any insurance claim. Organisations such as insurance companies, banks, embassies and telephone service providers are aware of our policy.
