There has been a recent increase in theft from Motor Vehicles on our ward, targeting Disabled Badges which have been displayed. These are mostly overnight where the window has been smashed and the badges taken. Its hard to protect against these thefts as you must display it. It causes a lot of stress to the victims as it disrupts there parking concessions for a few weeks. There can be a big expense in replacing the broken window. The Criminals steal it to sell on. The buyer also being dishonest , uses it to park in prime car park places sometimes for free. They are worth a lot of money to them especially in inner London. There are some things we can do. At some car park spaces it does not need to be displayed during the night so remove it from view and replace in the morning, a anti-theft device which you can buy online or in car mechanics shops, a dash cam with parking mode and some councils let you have a digital blue badge linked to your registration of the car. When you can, park in a well lit area where there may be other cctv opportunities. These are deterrents and the thief will always go for the easier target. If you have been a victim of this sort of theft please report it, so that police can them build a picture of Hot spot areas and times. You can report online, 101 or go personally to Hounslow Police Station where its open 24hrs |
