CAR SEIZED AFTER MOTORIST SPOTTED TAILGATING A POLICE VEHICLE |

|
A motorist, who tailgated a police vehicle in a South Derbyshire village, had his vehicle seized after it was discovered that he was a disqualified driver.
On Friday 20 February, your local officer was patrolling Willington, when he was alerted to a car tailgating his police vehicle.
The motorist was driving too close to the police vehicle in front, leaving insufficient time to react or stop.
The driver came to a halt on Repton Road, Willington, near to a local Coop food store.
Police approached the motorist, who was not wearing a seat belt, and asked him to explain his inconsiderate driving. It was observed that the driver’s side wheel did not have the benefit of adequate tyre depth.
The motorist appeared agitated during the interaction. And it soon became clear why. The motorist was a disqualified driver, who did not have a valid motor insurance policy in place.
The vehicle also appeared unroadworthy, and it was seized for no insurance and taken to a compound for a full mechanical examination.
The driver has now been reported for several road traffic offences.
A huge thanks to PCs Boden and Wallbank, (pictured), from Swadlincote Local Policing Unit who joined your local officer at the location.
Please do not tailgate vehicles as it is dangerous and can lead to prosecution.
Further road safety patrols in the Mercia policing beat area will continue throughout the weekend.
