Good morning Residents,

Please be aware of the following important safety notice:

There have been reports of a man claiming to be from the local Council knocking on residents’ doors in the area, stating he is there to check the quality of their front and rear doors. The individual did not have any official identification to support the business he claims to represent and has been turned away from several homes.

Doorstep scams involve fraudsters posing as traders, charity workers, or officials to steal money or gain access to your home. They often use high-pressure tactics or offer unnecessary or substandard home repairs. Please remain vigilant.

🚨 Key Safety Measures & Tactics

✅ Verify Identity

Genuine callers will always carry official photo ID.

Ask them to show it through a window or letterbox.

If unsure, contact the organisation directly using an official phone number — not one provided by the caller.

🚫 Use “No Cold Calling” Signs

Legitimate companies respect these notices.

Criminals often ignore them, which can help identify suspicious behaviour.

❌ Do Not Feel Pressured

You are under no obligation to engage.

Simply say, “No thank you,” and close the door.

🔧 Watch for Bogus Tradespeople

Be cautious of anyone claiming you have urgent roof, driveway, or structural issues.

Some may pretend to be from utility companies to gain entry.

💷 Never Pay Upfront

Do not hand over cash or make immediate payments at the door.

👀 Be Aware of Distraction Burglaries

Offenders may work in pairs — one distracts you at the front while another attempts to enter elsewhere.

📞 Reporting Suspicious Activity

If you feel threatened or in immediate danger, call 999.

To report suspicious callers or non-urgent concerns, contact the police on 101.
