Winter Ward Panel Priority Updates |
||
|
Dear Friends,
In advance of the Spring ward panel meeting next week, I wanted to update you the three priorities that were set for the Winter.
Fencing of Stolen Goods. I wanted to make SBG an inhospitable area for the sale of stolen property. Thieves want to offload their property quickly - the longer they have it, the greater personal risk. This would push the theft and robbery offences elsewhere. We carried out a search warrant at 166 Uxbridge Road trading under ‘Essentials’ and found large amounts of counterfeit cigarettes, stolen property and alcohol (no licence to sell.) thus proving the hypothesis that they were fencing goods. The courts granted us a closure on the shop for three months.
2. Intimidatory behaviour of group outside Shepherd's Bush Market on Uxbridge Road. We are working with the two market companies to enforce both on the public and private realm. The market are now issuing banning orders and sharing with us for us to consider a Community Protection Warning. This is to avoid playing tennis pushing the problem back and forth. The company that manages Market Approach has agreed to provide security and a gate. We conducted a joint operation this Friday gone; within 37 minutes we had run out of PCs for the shift with four arrests. We would like to repeat this operation soon. We are also using additional Home Office funding to pay overtime for police officers and PCSOs to be on patrol in the area.
3. Top Shoplifters.
We have focused on our most prolific offenders to get meaningful outcomes at court. We have obtained: one eight-month custodial sentence; one six-month community order; one eighteen-week custodial sentence; and one person is currently on remand awaiting sentencing.
Other matters are that we shut down a brothel on the ward and removed two women places. This arose from a warrant the team conducted and a subsequent closure order granted by the courts for a period of three months.
We have successfully argued for Retail24 to loose their licence, however they are still allowed to trade pending an outcome of an appeal to the Magistrates which could take ix to nine months. The licence at the CoOp by Shepherd's Bush Market is also under review.
In terms of the spring priorities, I should like to continue with:
The residents in the blocks on Queensdale crescent have suffered a stark worsening of the quality of their lives because of drug related ASB. I should like to be able to focus resources as a ward priority for the next three months.
As ever your support and kindness is always deeply appreciated,
Yours in friendship,
