Weekly update from the South Yardley Neighbourhood policing team. |

Dear Members, Here’s a quick round up from the South Yardley neighbourhood policing team. We’re excited to share all the wonderful news and actions our team has been involved in the last few weeks. Our first was setting up a Crime Prevention stand in ASDA, Small heath on 7th Feb to mark international awareness and Zero tolerance on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). We offered advice and leaflets around this crime type and other similar related crimes under Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). We will be doing more of these, keep your eye out as we will also be giving freebies. 49 tickets have been issued for parking offences. Again, we are asking the community to be considerate of other road users, including emergency services being able to get past as ease to get to locations to people in need. This also has a huge impact on the area and can contribute to other matter and concerns. We will activity ticket any wilful obstruction or parking in areas where people shouldn’t be. We also know around peak times for schools this is also having a knock-on effect to businesses and residents surrounding schools on the area. You will begin to see an increase in uniform issuing tickets as a result. This will be sent in the post should you fall below any of the standards. We have been supporting colleagues in other areas with protests; this has meant some officers from Yardley were provided. We were still able to support the area and deal with anything in hand at the time. We have requested for a Traffic Operation to take place, focusing on the Fatal 5 and other offences. This will be set up in a key location to offer reassurance to residents and businesses with concerns around Vehicle crime. This will be taking place in a few months’ time. No dates and times will be released on this until this has been completed. All results, will be shared. We are increasing our Social Media footprint with regular updates per our last WMNow message, and this will continue. If you have access to ‘X’ please follow along the journey with us. 3 vehicles in one location were seized for no tax. In another location we seized another 2 and more for being stolen. We will continue to do this were possible and support DVLA with taking zero tolerance to those trying to avoid paying no tax with recovering and checking as many vehicles we can, should we suspect they are stolen. Furthermore, we have located abandoned vehicles - This led to another vehicle being seized used in crime and we were able to seize a quantity of Class A drugs and a mobile phone. This will now assist with any further lines of enquiries. There has been a few arrested from South Yardley and dealt with in custody resulting into successful charges. We have dealt with some individuals by means of out of court disposal with ASB First Warnings and Community Protection Warnings for Begging, causing ASB inside and outside of residential block of flats or businesses. If you are experiencing anything similar please do contact us below and we will do all we can to reduce this, working alongside partners. As a result of one key location, we have organised a drop-in surgery for 2 hours with Birmingham City council and the local Councillor to tackle the ongoing issues residents are facing and we are actively seeking our Design out crime team to attend and support with prevention measures. We are also linking in with other departments within West Midlands to share information and intelligence and jointly working to reduce the ongoing concerns. Your DNOs – PC SMITH and PC DODD also attended to a safeguarding awareness training with other key members on how we can tackle rough sleeping together and understanding the lessons previously. This was informative and we took many different support and connections away to assist anyone within the local area.
