Dear Resident
Please see this months news letter- for Crawley District ,
News: Firearms Amnestty-
Sussex Police supports national firearms amnesty launched this month.
Sussex Police is joining other forces across the country in a four-week Firearms Amnesty for five types of BRUNI-manufactured side / top-venting blank firers (TVBFs) which are now illegal to possess following testing by the National Crime Agency and policing. The amnesty will take place between February 2 and 27, 2026, after which anyone in possession of one of the specified TVBFs could be subject to prosecution and up to 10 years’ imprisonment. Owners of these TVBFs are being forewarned ahead of the law change, however, and will be given the chance to surrender these weapons to the police without fear of prosecution. During the amnesty period, those handing in a BRUNI TVBFs will not face prosecution for the illegal possession and will not have to give their details. However, the history of any live firearms handed in will be checked for evidence of its use in crime. Designated stations for the amnesty |

Crime Prevention Advice
We would like to take the opportunity to remind residents to take a moment to review their home security and check that all entry points to their homes are secure.
This includes side gates, rear doors and windows, where offenders often look for quick and easy access, so making sure these areas are locked and well‑secured can make a real difference.
Avoid leaving valuable or personal items on show from the street, as this can unintentionally draw attention; for jewellery and other important belongings, consider using a secure home safe for added protection.
If you spot anything suspicious, please report it at the time.
Protect your jewellery and other valuable items
![]() |
Items of gold jewellery are preferred items for thieves to steal, due to the value of gold. Extra care needs to be taken if there are more valuables in your home, for example, additional jewellery or presents following a wedding, during festival times or other celebrations.
To reduce the risk:
At Home:
• Install a high-quality safe (insurance-rated, bolted down).
• Close curtains at night and ensure windows/doors are locked.
• Don’t leave jewellery boxes in bedrooms; burglars know where to look.
• Avoid posting valuables on social media.
When Travelling or Attending Events:
• Only take the jewellery you intend to wear.
• Keep items concealed when walking to/from venues.
• Arrange travel in groups where possible.
• Be cautious of people watching you at events, shops, or places of worship.
You can register your jewellery items free
here - https://orlo.uk/SnTzt

Working together to reduce opportunities for crime helps keep our community safe. If you see suspicious activity, call the police on 101 (or 999 in emergencies).
