Local crime Below is a snapshot of the vehicle crime and burglaries that have been recorded in the Shirley West area between the 10th February to the 18th February 2026:
Burglaries: Between 01.30 hrs and 05.00 hrs on 16/02/26 unknown suspects have snapped the lock on a rear door of a property on Hazeloak Road. Once inside the keys to a BMW X5 have been stolen and the vehicle taken from the driveway.
Vehicle crime: Between 21.00hrs on 12/02/26 and 06.45 hrs on 13/02/26 a grey Ford Fiesta was stolen without keys from the driveway of a property on School; Road. Crime prevention advice
- Please consider purchasing a steering wheel lock for your vehicle. This will decrease the chances of your vehicle being targeted by offenders. Also remember to double check that your vehicle is locked, before leaving it unattended. Installing an immobiliser and covert tracking device will also increase the chance of getting your vehicle back should it be stolen. Visit the following link for further advice to keep your vehicle secure: Preventing car and vehicle theft | Crime Prevention | West Midlands Police - Consider purchasing a decent lock for your pushbike to prevent it being stolen. Visit the following link for further advice to keep your bicycle secure: Protect your bike from theft | West Midlands Police - Consider installing anti-snap locks to all external windows and doors on your home. This will make it more difficult for potential burglars to gain access to your home. Installing a monitored burglar alarm is also a great deterrent. Try to make the front and rear of your property as well-lit as possible by installing motion activated lighting. Visit the following link for further advice to keep your property secure: Keep burglars out of your property | West Midlands Police - CCTV is a great deterrent for offenders. This can also be crucial in linking criminals to multiple crimes.
Keeping your keyless entry vehicle secure Vehicles today are by and large more difficult to steal than ever, unless the thief can access your key or fob to clone them. Keep your keys safe, out of view when at home, and away from your front door. It’s not uncommon for car keys to be stolen from inside your home by thieves fishing for them with a stick and hook through the letterbox. If you're selling your car and you meet up with a potential buyer, do not allow the keys out of your sight. Your keys may be cloned by thieves and used later to steal your vehicle. Keyless entry Cars with keyless entry unlock automatically when the key comes within a short distance of the car. This can be from inside a pocket or bag. If you have to push a button on your car key to open your car, you don't have keyless entry. Keyless car theft or 'relay theft' is when a device is used to fool the car into thinking the key is close by. This unlocks the car and starts the ignition. Thieves only need to be within a few metres of your car key to capture the signal, even if it’s inside your home. This means that even if your car and home are secure, thieves can still unlock, start and steal your car. How to protect your keyless entry car
Additional physical security such as locks and immobilisers are still highly recommended.

Local news - Home Office funding is provided to West Midlands Police to tackle anti-social behaviour and crime in areas that are identified as having a high rate of these incidents. As a result, local officers have been conducting targeted patrols in these locations, with the aim of providing a visible presence, engaging with the local community and deterring this type of behaviour. When your local Officers are off duty, these patrols are conducted by policing teams from other areas, ensuring that there is continual coverage. Officers record the results of these patrols and the information is then returned to the home office. Your local officers have been hard at work conducting these patrols, so please feel welcome to have a chat when you see us.
Officers have arrested a female for two attempt burglaries at business premises on Parkgate. She has been charged and remanded for these offences, along with several shop thefts.
Shirley officers have been increasing high visibility patrols around Shirley Park, Stratford Road and Parkgate. This has lead to a male being arrested for being in possession of a bladed article.
Shirley officers have supported Trading Standards in carrying out an operation at Boss Mart, Stratford Road, targeting the sale of illegal and counterfeit goods. Goods estimated at around £35k have been seized. Trading Standards will now be applying to the courts for a closure order of the store.
Several arrests have been made following an incident on Stratford Road, Shirley at around 9pm on Saturday 7th February. Two boys, aged 14 and 15 years old were taken to hospital with injuries, which we believed were caused by a machete.
One of the boys has life changing injuries. Another boy, aged 15, was also assaulted after being punched but did not go to hospital.
A 16 year old boy has now been charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault, and possession of a bladed article.
We understand the concern in the community following this serious incident. Since this incident, we have had extra officers on patrol in the area offering reassurance.
Our investigation is continuing and we urge witnesses or anyone with information, such as dashcam or mobile phone footage, to contact us on 101 quoting crime number 20/140175/25.
Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
