Man Convicted Following Shoplifting Incident at Sainsbury's Local, Brighton Road, South Croydon

Officers from the South Croydon Safer Neighbourhood Team responded promptly to reports of a theft at Sainsbury’s Local, 51 Brighton Road, South Croydon, on 9 February 2026.

Paul Grant was apprehended shortly after leaving the store, following swift action by officers responding to reports from staff. Paul Grant was arrested and charged.

At a hearing on 10 February 2026, he was found guilty at Croydon Magistrates’ Court. He was remanded in custody, with sentencing scheduled for 24 February 2026.

Sergeant Aaron Bawden, South Croydon Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

“This is now the third persistent offender our team has arrested and seen remanded in recent weeks. We will continue to target repeat offenders who impact our local businesses and residents, and we will use every lawful power available to ensure they are brought before the courts and held accountable. Our neighbourhood officers remain committed to tackling this type of crime and protecting our community.”
