Recent events of Anti-social behaviour |

Following recent incidents of anti-social behaviour in Ashton‑in‑Makerfield, the Wigan Neighbourhood Team has continued to maintain a high‑visibility policing presence in the area. Officers PC Carter, PC Carroll, PC Benneworth and PCSO Grimes have conducted both foot and mobile patrols throughout the town centre and surrounding locations. This increased presence has enabled officers to engage directly with local businesses and members of the public who have been affected by recent events, offering reassurance and gathering further intelligence. The team remains committed to preventing and deterring anti‑social behaviour, ensuring the town centre remains a safe place for residents, visitors, and shop staff. Partnership working with key agencies—including the local council, schools, and community partners—continues as part of a long‑term approach to reducing such behaviour and addressing the underlying factors that contribute to it. Enquiries into the anti‑social behaviour and the associated assaults that occurred earlier in the day are still ongoing, with officers pursuing all available lines of investigation. The Neighbourhood Team will continue to prioritise this area and take proactive action to safeguard the community and prevent further incidents.
