Swift Police Response Protects Students and Highlights Commitment to Ending Violence Against Women and Girls |

St. George’s Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) responded swiftly and decisively following several alarming reports from female students at London South Bank University.
On Saturday 7 February, officers received multiple calls regarding an unknown man tailgating women into communal areas on campus. Once inside, the suspect made inappropriate sexual comments, followed women to their doors, and in some instances attempted to prevent them from closing it. Some students were left visibly distressed after having to push their doors shut to keep him out.
Recognising the significant risk this behaviour posed—particularly to women and girls—the team acted immediately. PC Gorman, PC Kyriacou, PC Aylott, PCSO Dann and PCSO Liston demonstrated exceptional teamwork and professionalism during an intensive operation to identify and locate the suspect. Their coordinated efforts led to the arrest of a male that same evening for public order offences, using violence to secure entry, and stalking.
Following continued engagement with students, additional victims have since come forward, ensuring their voices are heard and their experiences acknowledged. The suspect has now been recalled to prison while further enquiries continue.
St. George’s SNT remains committed to supporting survivors and tackling all forms of violence against women and girls. Officers continue to carry out reassurance patrols around the campus and surrounding area, providing visibility, safety advice, and a clear message: this behaviour will not be tolerated in our community.
Creating safer spaces for women and girls is a shared responsibility, and the swift actions of the team reflect a strong dedication to that mission. Anyone with concerns or further information is encouraged to engage with the team during patrols or through established reporting channels. | ||
