⚠️ Fake Notes Circulating — Please Be Aware

We’ve received reports of counterfeit notes being used in the area. Fake money can be very convincing, especially in busy shops or during quick transactions, so here are a few things to look out for:

🔍 How to Spot a Fake Note:

• Check the hologram — genuine notes have a clear holographic image that changes when tilted.
• Feel the paper — real notes have a unique texture; fakes often feel too smooth or too thin.
• Raised print — genuine notes have raised print on words like Bank of England.
• See‑through window (polymer) — the clear window and metallic elements should be crisp and detailed.
• UV features — under UV light, real notes glow in specific areas; fakes often don’t.

🏪 Advice for Shops & Businesses & Market Place.
• Take a second to check any £20 or £50 notes, especially during busy times.
• If a note feels wrong, refuse it politely.
• Use a note checker or UV light if you have one.
• Record descriptions of anyone attempting to use fake cash.
