Bike Marking Events |

Dear resident Cyclists across Telford are being encouraged to take advantage of a new police initiative aimed at reducing bike theft through free security marking. West Mercia Police are offering cyclists the opportunity to have their bikes marked using BikeRegister, which helps to deter theft, supports the identification of stolen bikes, and increases the likelihood of reuniting recovered cycles with their owners. As part of the registration process, each bike receives a laminated, durable, tamper‑resistant QR code label, providing a unique BikeRegister ID. The label can be scanned easily using a mobile phone, enabling officers to quickly check ownership details. If a marked bike is stolen and subsequently recovered, police can access the secure database to confirm ownership. In January this year, 24 stolen bikes were successfully reunited with their owners throughout the UK, demonstrating how effective registration can be. The marking kits are being provided free of charge as part of the initiative, offering an effective deterrent to would‑be thieves. During February half term officers will be attending BMX tracks in Malinslee, Leegomery, Hills Lane, Donnington and Woodside alongside the Urban Games. Details of locations can be found at: Urban Games February Half Term 2026 You can also bring your bike to Southwater Square, Southwater Way TF3 4BX on Saturday 7 March between 12pm and 4pm where officers will mark and register your bike for you.
