Dear Residents, We would like to share some important crime‑prevention advice to help reduce the risk of Theft of Motor Vehicles in our community. Many offences are opportunistic, so taking a few simple precautions can make a big difference in keeping your vehicle safe. Simple Tips to Protect Your VehicleAlways lock your vehicle, even if you are only leaving it for a brief moment.Ensure all windows, doors and the sunroof are fully closed before walking away.Keep your keys safe, out of sight and away from your front door to prevent key‑fishing or relay attacks.Lock your doors while in traffic to reduce the risk of carjacking.Use your garage if you have one available.Choose parking locations carefully – opt for areas covered by CCTV where possible.Park in well-lit areas to increase visibility and deter criminals.Consider additional security, such as a steering wheel lock, gear lock, wheel clamp, or approved immobiliser/tracker.Making these checks part of your daily routine can significantly reduce the risk of your vehicle being targeted. Why Improving Motor Vehicle Security Matters?Effective security operates on two key principles: • DETER – Visible and appropriate security measures discourage criminals from targeting your vehicle in the first place. • DELAY – The more difficult, noisy, or time-consuming it is to steal a vehicle, the more likely the offender will abandon the attempt due to the increased risk of being caught.
