Bike Theft and bike marking

Dear residents,

Recently PCSO’s from the Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) were made aware by a member of the public of photographs being taken of bicycles chained to railings outside the residents flat. The pictures were later seen on Gumtree and other such sites, and their bikes were being advertised for sale. A false name was being used on the sites but ultimately bikes were being stolen to order. PLESASE BE AWARE your bike is only truly safe if you can store it in your home. Check Gumtree and other sites regularly to see if you can spot your bike being advertised – before its even stolen. Contact us if you see it being sold. And please remember, our next ‘FREE’ bike marking event will take place at Bonner Gate by Victoria Park on 22nd February 2026 between 12pm – 1pm.
