We are aware of a scam circulating in your area.
Please be aware of rogue traders cold-calling to offer pressure washing for driveways or roofs, as they often use high-pressure, intimidating tactics to sell unnecessary, overpriced, or damaging work. They may start work without agreement, demand immediate cash payment, and target vulnerable residents. Never agree to doorstep, unsolicited work; instead, get three written quotes, check for local reputation, and report suspicious callers to 101 or 999 if they become threatening or aggressive. Key Warning Signs and Risks Intimidation: Pressure-selling, acting aggressive, or refusing to leave. Fake Urgency: Claiming your roof/driveway is dangerous to force an instant sale. Inflated Costs: A small job estimated at low cost can quickly escalate to thousands. Surface Damage: High pressure can destroy mortar, sand, and surface materials, causing more harm than good. Uninvited Contact: Approaching via doorstep or social media to offer immediate services. How to Protect Yourself Never agree to work on the spot: Say no, shut the door, and use a door chain. Use reputable, local traders: Research companies and get at least three written quotes. Do not pay cash upfront: Avoid handing over money before work is completed. Check credentials: Ensure they are legitimate, check their business address, and verify their identity. Know your rights: You generally have a 14-day cooling-off period for contracts over £42. If a trader is aggressive or won't leave, contact the police immediately on 999. | ||
