Parking Pavement. |

Hello Resident
pavement parking is currently being addressed through the West Midlands Police "Don't Plonk It – Park It!" initiative. As of February 2026, local neighbourhood teams are using these alerts to warn drivers that obstructing footways is considered anti-social behaviour and can lead to vehicle seizure if the vehicle is also untaxed or uninsured.
Current Enforcement & Police Activity Police in the Wednesfield and Heath Town areas have designated anti-social behaviour (ASB), including dangerous parking, as a top priority for early 2026.
"Polite Notices": Officers frequently place advisory leaflets on windscreens to educate drivers before moving to formal fines. Obstruction Tickets: Fixed penalty notices are issued for "wilful obstruction" where a vehicle forces pedestrians, particularly those with pushchairs or wheelchairs, into the road. Operation Snap: Residents are encouraged to submit video or photographic evidence of dangerous pavement parking directly to the police portal. Targeted Patrols: Recent activity has focused on high-traffic zones like the Bentley Bridge shopping area and schooroutes.
Local Parking Guidelines (Wolverhampton Council) The City of Wolverhampton Council advises that vehicles must not:
Restrict the pavement for mobility scooters, pushchairs, or wheelchair users. Restrict access to residential or commercial driveways. Cause damage to footpaths, grass verges, or kerbs. Park within 10 metres of a junction, which creates dangerous blind spots for other road users.
Upcoming Changes in 2026 Later in 2026, local authorities across the West Midlands are expected to receive expanded legal powers from the government to introduce wider pavement parking bans. These new measures will allow councils to fine motorists for pavement obstruction more easily, rather than relying on the current complex street-by-street Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
How to Report Issues Physical Obstruction: If a pavement is entirely blocked, report it as ASB on the West Midlands Police website. Dangerous Driving: Use Operation Snap to upload dashcam footage of parking that risks lives. Council Restrictions: Report parking on double yellow lines or across dropped kerbs directly to Wolverhampton City Council. | ||
