Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information after a woman has died following a road traffic collision in Bishop’s Stortford. The incident occurred within the car park of the Thorley Neighbourhood Centre at around 10.30am on Monday (9 February). It is reported that while a woman, was loading shopping into a red Ford Fiesta, a red Suzuki Swift for reasons not yet known has collided with the woman, who suffered serious injuries, which later have proved to be fatal. A 65-year-old woman is assisting police with enquiries. Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit (RPU), and local officers attended the scene alongside the East of England Ambulance Service and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance Service. Road closures were put in place, and the car park was partly blocked off while emergency services attended to the scene. A 74-year-old woman was treated at the scene and then taken to hospital, where she sadly passed away shortly afterwards. Investigations are continuing to establish the circumstances around the collision and officers from the RPU are appealing for any witnesses to please come forward. Sergeant David McIlwhan said: “First and foremost, our thoughts and condolences are with the woman’s family at this difficult time. “I am appealing to anyone who was in the car park at the time of the incident and may have witnessed it take place, to get in touch with any information. “If you were driving in the car park between 10am and 10.30am and own a dash cam, please could you check the footage to see if it has captured anything related to the incident.” It can be uploaded via https://upload.5fdams.aetopia.net?ref=76G8M3. “No matter how insignificant you think the information is, it could still support our ongoing investigation.” You can report information online at herts.police.uk/report, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat at herts.police.uk/contact or call the non-emergency number 101, quoting Op Kenton.
