Be aware -Counterfeit £20 notes in circulation

⚠️ ALERT – COUNTERFEIT £20 NOTES REPORTED ON WESTERN WARD ⚠️

Officers from the Western Ward Neighbourhood Policing Team are advising local shops, businesses, and residents to be vigilant following reports of fake £20 notes circulating in the area.

We are asking everyone in the community to take extra care when handling cash, particularly £20 notes, and to report anything suspicious.

Advice for shops & businesses:

Check notes carefully before accepting them.

Look for key security features such as the hologram, raised print, transparent window and metallic strip.

Use counterfeit detection pens or UV lights if available.

Be cautious of anyone attempting quick purchases with multiple £20 notes.

Advice for residents:

Be mindful when receiving cash from private sales, doorstep sellers, or unknown individuals.

If unsure about a note, avoid accepting it and contact police for advice.

Do not attempt to pass on a note you believe is counterfeit.

If you believe you’ve been handed a fake note, retain it if safe to do so and report the incident via 101 or online. Please dial 999 if a crime is in progress.
