We wanted to update you on an incident that took place at Primark recently.

While returning from patrol, our PCSOs Gurm, Coote and Camaj stopped to deal with a routine shoplifting matter. This was resolved at the scene by way of a community resolution. However, while officers were present, the situation escalated and a member of the store’s security team was assaulted, resulting in injuries amounting to Actual Bodily Harm (ABH).

One of our PCSOs Gurm gave immediate first aid to the injured staff member, who was later taken to hospital for further treatment. Officers acted quickly to keep everyone safe. The suspect was arrested at the scene and has since been released on bail while further enquiries continue.

We know incidents like this can cause concern. Please be reassured that violence in our town centre is taken extremely seriously. 

Alongside supporting local businesses, we also work closely with neighbouring wards to share information, coordinate patrols and tackle crime across the wider area.

Local shops play a big part in our community, and your reports really do make a difference. If you see suspicious behaviour or witness shoplifting, please let us know as soon as possible.
