Join Greater Manchester Police |

If you’re interested in joining Greater Manchester Police, there are several routes depending on your background and how you prefer to train. Options include the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, which lets you earn a full salary while studying for a degree, the Police Constable Entry Programme for those who want to join without going to university, the Professional Policing Degree Holder route if you already have that specific degree, and the Detective Constable Entry Programme, a two‑year route that trains you directly for investigative work and leads to the PIP2 qualification.
Starting pay for new officers is typically around £31,164 and increases each year with experience, rising over the £50,000 range after several years of service.
Once you join, there are many directions your career can go. GMP is a large organisation of more than 12,000 people, offering roles in neighbourhood policing, response, investigations, specialist units, police staff, PCSOs, special constables, volunteers and cadet programmes. These are all active parts of GMP’s workforce and available to applicants depending on skills, experience and interest.
You can normally apply from age 18 as long as you meet national eligibility requirements, vetting standards and the qualification criteria for the specific entry route.
Look on the GMP website for further details on how to apply. You can also approach the Local Policing team and we will help you.
