🛡️ Keep Your Home Safe – Simple Steps That Make a Big Difference
🎥 CCTV – A Helpful Tool, Not a Complete Solution
CCTV can be a great way to protect your property and give you peace of mind. When used with clear boundaries in mind, it can help deter intruders and capture useful evidence if something happens. • Know the limits: CCTV alone won’t stop crime, but it can help you respond quickly. • Stay connected: Systems linked to your smartphone can alert you when someone approaches your property. • Quality matters: Make sure cameras are positioned to capture clear facial images. Ask yourself – could you recognise someone from the footage? • Day & night coverage: Many modern systems work 24/7 and only record when movement is detected. • Legal compliance: Always speak to an accredited installer to make sure your setup follows data protection laws. • Be transparent: Display signs letting people know CCTV is in operation.
🚨 Alarms – A Smart Investment for Your Home
A visible, working alarm system is one of the best deterrents against burglary. • Fit two audible alarm boxes – one at the front and one at the back – mounted high to prevent tampering. • Always choose a system installed by an accredited professional.
Types of alarms: • Monitored: Alerts a security company or keyholder who checks for false alarms. • Unmonitored: Sounds loudly to scare off intruders and alert neighbours. • Auto Dialler: Sends a call or text to pre-programmed numbers when triggered.
💡 Lighting – Let’s Keep Crime in the Dark
Lighting can be a powerful deterrent. It helps you see clearly and makes would-be intruders think twice. • Outside lighting: Use low white lights that switch on from dusk to dawn. Keep pathways, doors, and gardens well lit. • Keep it clear: Trim trees and bushes so they don’t block lights or provide hiding spots. • Be considerate: Position lights carefully to avoid disturbing neighbours.
Inside lighting: • Use timer switches when you’re away to make it look like someone’s home. • Choose LED bulbs – they’re energy efficient, last longer, and are safer. • In flats, motion-sensor lights in corridors and communal areas are ideal.
