I wanted to provide you an update regarding Shoplifting, which members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. Suspect Arrested After Attempted Shoplifting Report on The Broadway, Stanmore
A man was arrested in Stanmore on Thursday after police were called to reports of an attempted shoplifting incident at Lidl involving a knife on The Broadway.
Local & Emergency Response officers, supported by the Dog Section, raced to the scene shortly after 5 February. The Stanmore ward sergeant, in plain clothes already patrolling The Broadway on foot, also ran to the location and helped coordinate the search.
Officers quickly detained a suspect nearby. No knife was recovered, but further checks revealed the man was already wanted in connection with thefts from Cancer Research and Wenzels Bakery, and had been repeatedly linked to anti‑social behaviour in the area.
He was arrested, and local officers visited the affected shops to gather evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Speaking after the arrest, the Stanmore Ward Sergeant A/PS Chris Robinson said:
“This is a great example of our teams working together to keep people safe. Quick communication, joint effort and local knowledge meant we were able to respond swiftly and tackle an issue that directly affects our community’s priorities.”
