#SCEPTRE | Weapon sweeps are a key part of the work we are carrying out during Operation Sceptre, and continuing throughout the year, to remove knives and other dangerous weapons from our streets.
We have been working alongside Community safety teams to gather intelligence and information, enabling us to focus on the areas of high importance to our community within the North East of the city.
Offenders often hide weapons to avoid being caught carrying them - these sweeps help eliminate that risk.
There was a knife found during one of our recent weapon sweeps.
By reducing weapon availability and taking dangerous knives out of circulation, we can help prevent violent incidents before they happen.
Weapon sweeps are just one small piece of the puzzle. Tackling knife crime takes a combination of measures - from including intelligence led operations and proactive patrols, to the appropriate use of stop and search and meaningful engagement with young people.
By working together across Police, Partners, and Communities, we stand the best chance of reducing violence and helping to keep our streets safe.
