Local Area Update and Upcoming Partners and Communities Together Meeting |
||
|
Good Afternoon Stockport Residents,
I am writing to provide some recent crime updates for the Stockport Central Neighbourhood Policing area and invite you to attend the next Central Neighbourhood Partners and Communities Together Meeting.
The Latest Crime figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show significant reductions in key street-level offences across Greater Manchester, refleciting the impact of focused neighbourhood policing and sustained proactive work across the force. For the year ending September 2025 GMP saw decreases in several crime types: Shoplifting down 7% Robbery Down 10% Theft from person Down 24% Burglary Down 24% That is 500 fewer Burglary victims each month compared to May 2021.
Winter of Action This has now drawn to a close and continues the work from Safe4Summer with a focus on Town centres including Stockport town Centre and Brinnington throughout December and January. We have delivered 7 day a week neighbourhood policing in our hotspots responding to incidents and emergencies whilst providing high visibility patrols. Though the dedicated work of the local policing teams we have had some really positive results. Overall recorded crime down 12.2% 89 arrests including 23 for retail crime and 8 for serious violent crime. 162 stop searches completed with a 25% find rate Over 1,500 hours of visible policing which is over the target of 450 hours expected
Operation Rimini During December there were two dedicated dates for Operation Rimini which is now a standing feature on the Central neighbourhood area. Over both dates we completed 11 arrests and 19 stop searches with many positive outcomes. The Mobile police station was a regular feature on the town centre providing a safe space for the community and engagement opportunity for officers. We are continuing to promote Bee in the Loop and would encourage you to share this with your communities to find out what is taking place in your local area. Since launching in 2023, the operation has provided dedicated days of action in the town centre every single month, resulting in comprehensive policing coverage which has seen multiple results:
Targeted activity We have executed 4 Drugs warrants in the last 2 months across the Central beat areas in relation to intelligence provided from the local community about drugs and other crime related activity. Information can be sent directly to your local neighbourhood officers which can be found on the GMP website Home | Greater Manchester Police or by sending this through to Crimestoppers anonymously Independent UK charity taking crime information anonymously | Crimestoppers. This offending type often leads to other crimes and we want to continue to fight, prevent and reduce crime.
We have a new Chief Inspector to lead Stockport Neighbourhood Policing Teams in John Picton who used to be the Central Neighbourhood Insp and has a great working knowledge of building stronger relationships with communities.
Next Central PACT Meeting Tuesday 10th February at 6.30pm at the York Street Community Centre.
Please continue to engage with your local community policing teams.
Kind Regards
Insp 19966 Jason Holmwood | ||
