Over thirty people were arrested in the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot areas last week during an intensified policing operation. Operation Chirk involves days of action where outstanding suspects and those subject of wanted appeals are targeted to be brought into custody. The most recent Operation Chirk day, which took place on Friday January 30, saw 33 arrests made in total. These included 14 arrests for domestic violence offences, as well as multiple individuals who had been recalled to prison and others who had breached their Electronic Monitoring Services (EMS) conditions. The day saw the following arrests: Townhill – two arrests Neath – nine arrests Port Talbot – seven arrests City – ten arrests Morriston – three arrests Gorseinon – two arrests Chief Inspector Emma White said: “Operation Chirk is a demonstration of our relentless determination to pursue criminals and bring them to justice. “These arrests have all come following investigations of the highest standard which work to achieve the best outcomes for victims. “I thank all the colleagues involved for their hard work in getting these offenders off the streets. The areas of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot are now far safer as a result.”
