Neighbourhood Alert: Theft of EV Charging Cables

We are investigating a theft of electric vehicle (EV) charging cables reported to us at 20:30hrs on Tuesday 3rd February 2026 within the industrial estate at Clifton Moor, York. The suspect—a male—made off on a pedal cycle, carrying a large axe and multiple EV charging cables.

Alongside this incident, we’ve also seen an increase in similar thefts, so please take a moment to review the advice below and help us protect the community.

We are appealing for the public’s help:

Did you or anyone in your household see or hear anything around the time of the incident?

Do you have CCTV, Ring doorbell footage, or dash‑cam footage from a vehicle parked or passing through the area?

Did you notice anyone acting suspiciously, especially someone on a bicycle carrying tools or EV cables?

Your information—no matter how small it may seem—could help us identify those responsible.

What You Can Do to Protect Your EV

Remove and store your charging cable securely when not in use.

Park in well‑lit areas or where CCTV or motion lighting is present.

Consider using cable locks or anti‑theft devices designed for EV chargers.

Report any suspicious behaviour around vehicles immediately.
