Dear Resident, Statistical Reductions: As of late January and early February 2026, West Midlands Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner reported that home burglaries fell by 21–22% in the year ending September 2025.Regional Performance: This decrease is one of the largest volume differences seen in any police force in England and Wales over the last year.Response Commitment: The force now attends 100% of burglaries in progress and over 95% of all other reported burglary incidents.Crime Solving: West Midlands Police reported solving twice as many burglary incidents in early 2025 compared to 2023 levels.New Operating Model: These reductions are attributed to a new local operating model introduced in 2023, which increased the number of dedicated neighbourhood officers and improved call-handling times. Despite these improvements, the West Midlands still has one of the highest burglary rates per 1,000 people nationally, and police continue to warn of seasonal rises during autumn and winter months. |
