We’d like to make residents aware that there have been a couple of recent incidents involving theft from motor vehicles in the Moira area. While overall reports remain low, it’s a good opportunity to review simple steps that can help keep your vehicle and belongings secure. 🔒 Secure Your VehicleAlways lock your vehicle, even for very short stops, and ensure windows and sunroofs are completely closed to prevent offenders “fishing” items out or accessing doors.Check that fold‑in wing mirrors have retracted properly, as extended mirrors can indicate an unlocked vehicle. 📦 Remove or Hide ValuablesTake valuables with you or remove all signs of them—phones, cash, sunglasses, medication and electrical devices are commonly targeted. Secure any items carried on roof racks or tailgate racks. 🛠️ Protect Tools & Vehicle ComponentsIf tools are kept in a van, remove them when possible or ensure they are security‑marked. Be mindful that catalytic converters and EV charging cables are also targeted; consider well‑lit parking and CCTV or motion‑activated doorbells. 🔑 Key & Keyless Entry SecurityKeep keys out of sight and away from doors and windows to prevent “fishing” attempts. For keyless vehicles, store fobs in a Faraday/signal‑blocking pouch. 🌙 Smart Parking ChoicesUse well‑lit, busier areas when parking.Look for Park Mark accredited car parks for improved safety.
These incidents serve as a useful reminder rather than a cause for alarm. If you see suspicious activity or have CCTV/doorbell footage that might help, please report it via 101 or online. Always call 999 in an emergency. |
