I wanted to provide you with an update regarding burglary, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. We have seen a recent spike in Hillingdon of households targeted for the burglary of gold jewellery. This often disproportionately affects Asian families who’s residences are targeted specifically for their jewellery. To keep your belongings safe and your home secure, we recommend you follow these steps:
Keep any valuable jewellery in a safe place: Use a safe box that is kept out of the way to ensure that if the worst happens, criminals are not able to locate or break into this safe to steal your belongings.
Insure your jewellery: While this cannot replace the sentimental value of jewellery, insuring your belongings will protect you from further financial harm.
Protect your home with WIDE(N): WINDOWS: Lock your windows INTERIOR: Put your interior lights on a timer DOORS: Double or deadlock your doors EXTERIOR: Put your exterior lights on a sensor (N)EIGHBOURS: Keep an eye out for neighbours For a useful home safety checklist, take a look at this document provided by OurWatch.org.uk Home Security Checklist v4
Check with Secured By Design: The Metropolitan Police maintain a database of approved sellers of various security devices including locks, lights, safes and so on. If you want to purchase something for home security, check the accredited product search on Secured by Design - Secured by Design
If you or anyone you know sees anything suspicious that you think may result in burglary, please contact 101 or report it online at Report | Metropolitan Police , or via 999 in an emergency.
We hope you are all able to stay safe and keep your belongings secure.
While we will continue to pursue burglars in the area, there are steps you can do to help keep your property safe. Make sure that you: Double lock your door every time you leave the house If you can, move garden furniture or bins away from windows so that thieves cannot use them to gain access. Use laminated glass or security film on ground floor and accessible windows. Use a sash stop if you have sash windows to prevent people opening them enough to climb through. If your windows open outwards, use a key operated lock – check these are locked before leaving the house. Make sure all valuables are out of sight. Keep handbags and keys away from letterboxes or cat flaps. In the evening shut the curtains and leave lights on. Set your burglar alarm Lock your shed or garage Mark, register or record your valuables.
