Police are asking people to be vigilant after receiving a report of a scam on Friday 30th January. The fraudsters had sent a text message claiming to be from the victim’s bank, then contacted over the telephone to try to convince the victim that his bank account had been compromised and his full balance needed to be transferred into another account, for which they provided the details. Thankfully, the victim became suspicious and went to the local branch of his bank to report it. The staff there confirmed that this was a scam and contacted police. Please be cautious if you receive a call from anyone purporting to be from your bank. A bank would never call you and ask you to provide your own bank details, or to transfer funds from your own account into another. If you are concerned that a telephone call might be fraudulent, do not provide any details and end the call. You can report anything suspicious to https://orlo.uk/0d5LM or call us on 101.
