A 39-year-old man from Ipswich has been jailed after pushing a woman to the floor.
Scott Hyam of Ramsgate Drive in Ipswich appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday 22 January where he was sentenced to 15 weeks’ imprisonment.
He denied the charge of robbery but pleaded guilty to the charge of assault by beating.
This follows an incident that took place in the vicinity of Wherstead Road and Croft Street on Saturday 13 September.
Police were called shortly after 2:15pm to reports that a woman had just been pushed to the ground by a man known to her, who had then stolen her rucksack, containing keys, purse and other personal items.
Officers attended and spoke with the victim who was not injured and who described Hyam. He was then traced on CCTV and seen crossing Stoke Bridge running towards the town centre.
Officers attended the area and pursued Hyam who refused to stop, despite several commands from police. Hyam was eventually apprehended by police dog Thor and his handler, and detained.
