This week is Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week |
||
“You will be taken seriously and listened to, you will be treated sensitively and you will be supported when you report an offence to us.” That’s the message from Detective Chief Inspector Gail Routledge, our safeguarding lead, at the start of the national Sexual Abuse and Violence Awareness Week, which runs from today (Monday 2 February) to Sunday 8 February. Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week is the UK’s national week to raise awareness of sexual abuse and violence and to provide an opportunity for any organisation or individual to engage in dialogue. It aims to raise awareness about the issues of sexual abuse and sexual violence, provide support to survivors, and encourage a broader dialogue on preventing these forms of harm. DCI Routledge said: “We know it can be very challenging for survivors of sexual abuse and sexual violence to come forward and report these type of horrific crimes. “I want to reassure them that that you will be taken seriously, you will be treated sensitively, and you will be supported. "We will fully investigate cases and our officers will do everything they can to keep you safe, prevent further offending, and to bring offenders to justice. "We understand the devastating impact these crimes have on survivors, and we are dedicated to ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met. "This happens by creating a safe environment where survivors can come forward with confidence, knowing that their cases will be handled with the utmost care and professionalism.” There is a rape and sexual assault reporting tool on our website where offences can be reported. Here you can tell us what has happened to you, or to someone else. You can report anonymously, without giving us your details. Access the reporting tool by clicking here: Report rape, sexual assault and other sexual offences | Nottinghamshire Police You can also report any crime online or speak by calling 101. Always dial 999 in an emergency.
