Wardleworth Community Alert: Bogus Doorstep Callers |
||
|
We’re seeing more pushy doorstep callers in Wardleworth. Please look out for yourself and your neighbours. If in doubt, keep them out.
Keep the door chain on and speak through the door. If you didn’t book a visit, you don’t have to let anyone in. Ask for ID, but don’t trust it on sight, call the company on a number you find yourself. It’s fine to say “no” and close the door.
Watch for pressure to decide now, requests for cash up front or bank transfer, “today only” deals, refusal to leave paperwork or come back later, or claims to be from the council, police, or utilities.
Protect your home with a door chain, good lighting, and a “No cold callers” sign. Never share PINs or move money because someone at the door tells you to. Keep any leaflets in case you need to report it.
If you feel unsafe or someone won’t leave, close the door and call 999. For non‑emergencies, call 101. For consumer advice, contact Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133. To report fraud or attempts, contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or actionfraud.police.uk.
Please share this with neighbours in Wardleworth, especially anyone living alone. If you’re expecting a genuine utility visit, set a password with the company in advance.
