An investigation has been launched into an explosion at a suspected cannabis grow in Chesterfield. Emergency services, including police and fire, were called out to attend the incident in Summerfield Road, Boythorpe, at about 2.50pm on Friday 30 January. An explosion had caused extensive damage inside the detached house and further damage to a nearby property. Officers also discovered a suspected cannabis grow inside the property. A 32-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated for burns that are thought to be life-changing. People inside two homes either side of the property were evacuated as a precaution but were not injured and have since been allowed to return to their properties. Work has been undertaken to make the scene safe and secure. Residents living nearby may have heard a loud bang yesterday afternoon but we would like to reassure members of the public that there is no wider threat or danger to the public. A joint investigation between Derbyshire Constabulary and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service has been launched into the incident and the scene is cordoned off this morning. We are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward. Of particular interest is anyone with CCTV, Ring doorbell or dash cam footage which covers the scene and has not already spoken to officers.
