Can you spot a fake bank note? |
||
|
At first glance they can look pretty convincing. We are seeing an increase in counterfeit notes, especially £20s, across the county. There are reports of these being used in payment for goods sold on local selling sites like Facebook Marketplace - but they could pop up anywhere. Please be on the lookout and report any suspicious notes to us. The Bank of England have a detailed guide on what to look for including checking the hologram below the lighthouse on the front of the note - when tilting the note from side to side the words change between 'Twenty' and 'Pounds'. You can find a detailed guide on other security features to look for here from the Bank of England: https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/counterfeit-banknotes/how-to-check-your-banknotes Pictured are examples of fake notes.
