Dear Partners,
The Metropolitan Police will be implementing Section 35 (Dispersal Powers) in the vicinity of the Chelsea FC vs West Ham United FC fixture on Saturday 31st January 2026, covering the London Boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham. This has been authorised by Chief Inspector Chris Holman commencing 12:00 hrs on Saturday 31st January 2026 until 23:59hrs on Saturday 31st January 2026.
Cad number is CAD 5028/26JAN26
These powers have been authorised specifically in relation to intelligence and risk assessments connected to the football event. They are not part of routine community policing and are not directed at the general public.
The decision follows detailed planning and consultation with both clubs. It is based on intelligence regarding potential for disorder, anti-social behaviour and crowd-related issues.
What This Means: • Section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 allows officers to disperse individuals from a designated area if their presence is likely to contribute to crime, disorder, or ASB and allows the seizure of articles linked to that ASB. The power is used to prevent escalation and protect the public and local businesses.
These measures are precautionary and proportionate, and will be used only where necessary to maintain public safety and ensure a positive experience for all attending the match.
We want to reassure residents and businesses that these powers are targeted solely at football-related risks and will not affect day-to-day community life.
We remain committed to ensuring the safety of all, and we thank the local community for their understanding and support.
